Freddie Mercury [2] (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 - 24 November 1991) [3] was a British singer and songwriter who achieved worldwide fame as the lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four- octave vocal range.

The Freddie Mercury Statue is located beside Lake Geneva on Quai de la Rouvenaz, in Montreux, Switzerland. It is approximately 3 metres tall, and was created by Czechoslavakian sculptor Irena Sedlecká. The statue was unveiled on the anniversary of Freddie's death, 25 November 1996, by Brian, Roger, Freddie's parents, and Montserrat Caballe.
